Hindi Day celebrated in Colombo

    Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the cultural arm of the High Commission of India in Colombo observed the Hindi Day in Colombo on 13 September 2024 and certified 30 Sri Lanka Police personnel who completed their Hindi course at the Centre.

2. High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka H.E Santhosh Jhacongratulated the third batch of police personnel for their successful completion of the spoken Hindi course at the Cultural Centre. He has also released the annual Hindi publication of the Centre “Sri Lanka Hindi Samachar” at the event.

3. The event was also attended by the Senior Deputy Inspector Generals of Police Mr. Lalith Pathinayake and Mr. S.C. Medawatta along with the Executive Director of the National Police Academy (NPA) Mr. Jaliya Senaratne and other senior officials. In his speech, Sr. DIG (Admn) Mr. Pathinayake thanked the High Commission of India and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre for providing training to the Sri Lanka police personnel of spoken Hindi which is beneficial for the communication.

4. Hindi Day 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of Hindi as an official language of India. Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages in India. On this day, various competitions are organised in India and abroad to encourage students to learn the history and cultural significance of Hindi.
