Mr. Raakesh Natraj, Assistant High Commissioner of India, called on the Most Venerable Tihibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangalabhidhana Mahanayake Thero of Malwatte Chapter of the Syamopali Maha Nikaya.

            Mr. Raakesh Natraj, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy called on the Most Venerable Tihibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangalabhidhana Mahanayake Thero of Malwatte Chapter of the Syamopali Maha Nikaya at Malwathu Viharaya on 15 January 2021 to seek his blessings on assuming charge.

Most Venerable Mahanayake Thero welcomed Mr. Natraj to Kandy and conveyed his appreciation of the civilizational links between India and Sri Lanka, as exemplified by the shared heritage of Buddhism.  He recalled with warmth the visit of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, to Shri Dalada Maligawa in 2017.

Mr. Natraj briefed the Most Venerable Mahanayake Thero in detail about Government of India’s Grant of USD 15 Million for enhancement of Buddhist ties between the two counties. They also spoke about the opening of Kushinagar International Airport which would facilitate Buddhist pilgrims to visit the site of Lord Buddha’s Parinirvana.
