INDIAN PASSPORT SERVICES
General Information
A citizen of India who is ordinarily residing under the jurisdiction of AHCI, Kandy (Central & Subragamuwa provinces, Badulla District of Uva province & Kurunegala District of North Western province) can apply for passport services at AHCI, Kandy. Applications are accepted from 09.00 to 11.00 a.m. on working days (Monday to Friday) except on Indian gazetted holidays. Normal processing time for passport services will be 2-3 weeks except in cases where a reference has to be made to concerned authorities. An Indian passport holder can apply for re-issue / issue of passport under following conditions:

RE-ISSUE OF PASSPORT IN LIEU OF LOST/DAMAGED PASSPORT:

RE-ISSUE OF PASSPORT FOR CHANGES IN PERSONAL PARTICULARS
Indian nationals can apply for re-issue of passport under following conditions also:
1. Change in name in the passport:
Applicants seeking to change first name or surname or both are required to make a gazette notification in their respective place in India and place advertisements to that effect in a prominent newspaper of usual place of residence in Sri Lanka and in a prominent daily newspaper of area of permanent address in India. Copy of gazette notification and original clippings of these advertisements (newspaper page) along with a Sworn Affidavit are required to be furnished with the application.
2. Change in signature in the passport:
For changing signature in the Passport applicants are required to make a gazette notification in their respective place in India and bring copy of the same along with the application. Online application for new Passport has to be made and the applicant must append his / her old signature along with new signature on the first & second page of the Passport application form.
3. Change in Appearance:
If your appearance has changed significantly since your last Passport was made, you can apply for a fresh Passport with a recent photograph.
4. Addition of Spouse name:
For addition of spouse’s name, applicant will be required to apply for new Passport enclosing marriage certificate attested by concerned authorities and passport of the applicant’s spouse with the application.
FRESH PASSPORT TO A NEW BORN CHILD
Passport is issued to a new born child who is born in Sri Lanka and whose either of the parents is Indian. To obtain the passport the birth of the child should be first registered at the Assistant High Commission within one year of birth. (Please see requirements for registration of birth at the Consular services page of the website.) The passport issued will be valid for five years.

MISCELLANEOUS PASSPORT SERVICES
1. Police Clearance Certificate (For Indian nationals)
Indian nationals, who wish to get Police Clearance Certificate, can approach AHCI, Kandy.

2. Emergency Certificate
Emergency Certificate is issued for Indian nationals who have lost/damaged their Indian Passport during their stay in Sri Lanka and to those who does not have any travel document to travel to India.

3. Duplicate Emergency Certificate
Duplicate Emergency certificate will be issued for those who lost/damaged the Original Emergency Certificate before their travel to India.

4. Surrender certificate
An Indian national who wishes to acquire another nationality should renounce / surrender Indian nationality at AHCI, Kandy. The certificate will be issued after renunciation of nationality and cancellation of Indian passport.

5. Renunciation of Indian nationality
If a person has ever held an Indian passport and has obtained the passport of another country, they will be required to surrender their Indian passport immediately after gaining another country’s nationality.
