Visit of Deputy High Commissioner of India to Central Province
Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) of India to Sri Lanka Shri Vinod K. Jacob paid a visit to Central Province (Nuwara Eliya & Kandy) from 23-25 November, 2022.
2. Deputy High Commissioner began his visit from Nuwara Eliya, visiting Thondaman Vocational Training Center (TVTC) in Hatton and interacted with the senior management of TVTC. Upgradation of TVTC is one of the ongoing development projects of India. DHC also visited Dickoya Base Hospital. Deputy High Commissioner paid condolences on the sad demise of Hon’ble Muthu Sivalingam, former Minister and MP.
3. On 24th November, Deputy High Commissioner called on the Governor of Central Province HE Mr. Lalith U. Gamage. Hon. Governor conveyed his appreciation for the assistance offered by Govt. of India, to tide over the recent crisis, in addition to the development projects in the Central Province. They exchanged views on bilateral relations, historic & cultural ties between India & Sri Lanka. DHC briefed the Hon. Governor that year 2023 will witness Presidency of G20 & SCO chairmanship by India, 75 years of India Sri Lanka bilateral relations and 100 years of establishment of AHCI Kandy. DHC visited the campus of SIBA, Pallekele to review the progress of construction of Kandian Dancing School, GoI assisted development project where he also met the Hon’ble Diyawadana Nilame Dr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
4. On 25th November, DHC inaugurated the Cultural Show, concluding event of ‘International Week 2022’, at University of Peradeniya (UoP) as Chief Guest. DHC, in the inaugural speech, remarked that as neighbours with shared interest, we should cherish, protect and promote our cultural links. To Commemorate the Constitution Day of India, DHC along with VC Prof. M. D. Lamawansa inaugurated Photo Exhibition on ‘Making of Indian Constitution’ at Main Library of UoP. Dept. of Law UoP organised a Panel Discussion on Indian Constitution, where Deputy High Commissioner Shri Vinod K. Jacob & Head of Dept. of Law, Prof. Deepika Udagama were the keynote speakers. At an event organised at Gatambe Rajopawanarama, DHC handed over computers for E-Nanasala to the Most Venerable Keppitiyagoda Srivimala thero. Ven. Thero thanked India for the assistance.
