World Hindi Day – 2023 celebrations

     Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy celebrated World Hindi Day on 31st January 2023 at Suisse Hotel, Kandy. Dr. Upul Ranjith Hewawitanagamage, Chair Senior Professor, Dept. of Hindi Studies, University of Kelaniya was the Chief Guest & Dr. E.G.W.P. Gunasena, Senior lecturer, Dept. of languages, cultural studies and performing arts, University of Sri Jayawardenepura was the Guest of Honour.

2.     The event included cultural performances and exchange of ideas to promote Hindi language in Sri Lanka. 60 Hindi professionals, enthusiasts, teachers, and students participated in the event. Message delivered by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi was screened on the occasion.

3.     Nayaka Theros of Sri Bharati Pirivena, Penideniya, Kurukude Iriyagama Temple, Kandy & Sri Somananda Moolika Pirivena, Kegalle graced the event.

4.      During the week prior to the event, Hindi competitions were organised for students, in which more than 100 participants from various Universities, colleges, pirivenas and schools took part. Competitions were also organised for officials of AHCI Kandy. Winners of various Hindi competitions were awarded certificates of appreciation as well as cash prizes.
