Vesak Day 2023 celebrations

          Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy celebrated Vesak Day 2023. As part of Vesak celebrations many events were organised. 

  1. An ‘Indian Food Dansela’ was set up by Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy in front of Sri Dalada Maligawa on Vesak Day (05 May). The Dansela was inaugurated by Hon’ble Diyawadana Nilame Dr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela. Governor of Central Province H.E. Lalith U. Gamage, District Secretary of Kandy Mr. Chandana Thennekoon, Senior DIG, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Ishan Wijethilake, Friends of India were present for the inauguration ceremony. Indian food was served to around 5000 devotees.
  1. Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy collaborated with District Secretariat, Kandy for 2567th Sambuddha Jayanti celebrations and participated in the ‘Lantern festival’ organised at the premises of District secretariat, Kandy from 5-7 May, 2023 where various teams put up lanterns with different themes. AHCI displayed a lantern of G20 logo. India assumed the G20 Presidency from the 1st of December, 2022. The G20 Logo draws inspiration from the colours of India’s national flag. It juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower that reflects growth amid challenges. The theme of India’s G20 Presidency is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth . One Family · One Future”. Over 10,000 people visited AHCI pavilion.
  1. On the occasion of Vesak, AHCI organised dry ration distribution drive for the needy families under the humanitarian assistance initiative of Govt. of India. Dry rations were distributed at four locations. In the function organised at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Hon’ble Diyawadana Nilame Dr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Member of Parliament Prof. Ranjith Bandara, District Secretary of Kandy Mr. Chandana Thennekoon, Senior DIG & Municipal Commissioner were present. Dry rations were also distributed at Kurukude temple, Bharati Pirivena & Gatambe Rajopawanarama, Kandy and to the needy families from Mahaiyawa, Arupola, Sudupola & Deiyannawela areas in Kandy.
