Celebration of 9 th International Day of Yoga (IDY), 2023

Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy celebrated 9 th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with enthusiastic participation of local populace.

2. The main event of International Day of Yoga 2023 was held at Sahas Uyana, Kandy on 21 st June at 08:00 AM. Governor of Central Province H.E. Lalith U. Gamage was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his speech, Hon’ble Governor highlighted the incredible benefits of yoga and its power to deal with stress. 30 minutes yoga session was followed by meditation session by Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Center, Kandy. Chief Secretary of Central Province, Mr. Ajith Premasinghe, District Secretary, Mr. Chandana Tennekoon, Deputy Chief Secretary of North-Western Province, Ms. M.A.P. Sudarshini, Acting GoC Army Camp Pallekele, Brigadier Vasantha Bandara, DIG of Kandy District, Mr. Mahinda Dissanayake, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Ishan Wijethilake and govt. officials from various departments were present during the event.

3. Winners of IDY-2023 lucky draw, in-house yoga competitions and the yoga gurus were felicitated during the event. The event saw participation of around 300 yoga enthusiasts from Central Province and nearby areas. Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Athira S., officials and staff of the Assistant High Commission, students, teachers, govt. officers, police & army personnel, members of the Indian community and media fraternity and yoga enthusiasts participated in the event.

4. In the run-up to International Day of Yoga 2023, AHCI organised eleven curtain raiser events from 01 st June across seven districts to mark celebrations of IDY 2023.
