Celebration of 77^th Independence Day of India

Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy cerebrated 77^th Independence Day of India in Kandy on 15^th August, 2023. The independence Day marked culmination of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, an initiative launched by Govt. of India to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This year the Independence celebration was special as Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy is celebrating 100 years of its establishment.

2. Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Athira S. hoisted India’s national flag at Embassy Residence at 08:15 AM followed by reading out of the address delivered by hon’ble President of India to the nation on the eve of 77^th Independence Day.

3. As part of celebrations of Independence Day, local artistes performed Kathak, Bharatanatyam and the national song of India, Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram was a source of inspiration to Indian freedom fighters in their struggle for freedom.

4. This independence Day, Indian community participated enthusiastically in ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign showing their love and respect for the Indian flag in various innovative ways. They also took PanchPran Pledge as part of ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign.

5. Indian community, members of Indian diaspora, eminent personalities & friends of India participated in the Independence Day celebrations.
