Pravasi Bharatiya Divas – 2024 celebrations

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a day dedicated to the overseas Indian Community. It is a flagship event of the Government of India and provides an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Diaspora. The day marks the contributions and achievements of the Indian diaspora worldwide.

2.  Celebrating the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy organised an event on 09.01.2024 at Public Library Auditorium in Nuwara Eliya with Indian origin diaspora leaders, entrepreneurs and prominent people of Indian Origin.

3.  Dr. Athira S., Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy welcomed the guests. Hon’ble Governor of Eastern Province Mr. Senthil Thondaman was the chief guest. He thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for organising Pravasi Bharatiya Divas globally, reiterating that he is proud of being an Indian-Origin Tamil. 

4.  Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner of Nuwara Eliya Mrs. Sujeewa Bodimanna, Hon’ble Municipal Commissioner of Bandarwela Mr. Dhanaraj Gajendra Kumar, Deputy President of Ceylon Workers Congress Mrs. Anushia Sivarajah and friends of India were present during the event. They congratulated AHCI Kandy for 100 years of its establishment. 

5.  The event turned out to be a platform for fruitful interaction between officials of Assistant High Commission of India and members of Indian Origin Community.
