Celebration of 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY), 2024

In the run up of International Day of Yoga 2024, Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy organized a series of Yoga events at various iconic locations, different institutions and Pirivenas spanning seven districts of Sri Lanka.

2. AHCI Kandy collaborated with Sabargamuwa Provincial Council to organise a Yoga session at Indoor Stadium, Kegalle. Hon’ble Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province H.E. Navin Dissanayake graced the event as Chief Guest. Senior government official, dignitaries, distinguished invitees and more than 200 guests joined the Yoga Session.

3. The main event of International Day of Yoga 2024 was celebrated at Sahas Uyana, Kandy on 18^th June at 03:00 PM. Governor of Central Province H.E. Lalith U. Gamage was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his speech, Hon’ble Governor highlighted the incredible benefits of yoga and how it can contribute in improvement of oneself and social well-being. The event was also graced by Former Governors Mr. Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Mr. Sarath Ekanayake, Chief Secretary, Central Province, Mr. Ajith Premasinghe, Chief Secretary, North Western Province, Ms. Deepika K. Gunaratne, District Secretary, Mr. Chandana Thennekoon, Senior DIG, Mr. Lalith Pathinayake, Director General of Department of Animal Production and Health, Dr. K.A.C.H.A. Kothalawala, High Court Judge of Kandy, Ms. Darshika Wimalasiri, Buddhist Commissioner, Mr. W.M.A.H. Bandara, Senior government officials of Central Province and distinguished invitees. The 40 Minutes Yoga session was attended by more than 600 guests from all walks of life. In this event a lucky draw contest was organized, Winners of IDY-2024 lucky draw and the Yoga Gurus were felicitated during the event.

4. On the occasion of Poson Poya Day, AHCI Kandy organised the 10th Yoga event in collaboration with Umandawa Global Buddhist Village. Most Ven. Siri Samanthabadra Thero of Umandawa Global Buddhist Village, Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Athira S. and principals of schools were present for the event. More than 300 school students and yoga enthusiasts participated in the yoga session.

5. Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy organised a series of 10 Yoga events to mark the 10^th International Day of Yoga with participation of more than 4000 Yoga enthusiasts in all Yoga events at different places viz. Divisional Secretariat Office, Udadumbara, Kandy, Young Men's Hindu Association, Kandy, Sri Somananda Mulika Pirivena, Kegalle, Siri Sumana Billingual Pirivena, Iriyagama, Peradeniya,Sri Bharathi Pirivena, Penideniya and Mahatma Gandhi International Centre, Matale.
