Capacity Building Programme for Sri Lankan Media Professionals in India Concludes

A group of 29 journalists and media professionals from Sri Lanka successfully completed a two-week ITEC training programme on Media Management at the Dr. MCR Human Resource Development Institute of Telangana's Centre for Law & Public Administration (CLP), sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka H.E. Santosh Jha met the group today for an interactive feedback session at the High Commission premises in Colombo. 

2. The programme, held from 24 June to 07 July 2024, aimed to equip participants with advanced skills and insights into contemporary media practices across print, electronic, digital and social media platforms. The training included courses on the latest trends in media, including the use of new and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, and strategies to combat mis/disinformation. Participants also explored the pivotal role of Social Media in promoting Good Governance and acquired new skills relevant to the digital transformation of newsrooms and data-based reporting. The programme was further enriched with site visits, including to significant cultural and heritage sites in the region.

3. This capacity building training was offered under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme of the Ministry of External Affairs. Instituted in 1964, ITEC offers a wide variety of courses in 25 streams ranging from Accounts, Audit, Banking and Finance to Cyber Technology; Environment and Climate Change to Management and Leadership; Human Resource Development and Planning to Logistics and Management; Media and Journalism to Urban Planning; Marine and Aeronautical Engineering to Women Empowerment and many more. Sri Lanka is among the most important ITEC partner countries and over 400 fully-funded slots are offered every year to Sri Lankan Government personnel/nationals for short term training courses towards enhancing their skill-sets. For more information on the ITEC, please visit www.itecgoi.in
