World Hindi Day – 2024 celebrations
Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy celebrated World Hindi Day on 12th January 2024 at Auditorium of Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy. Senior Lecturer of Hindi Language, Head of Department of Hindi Studies, University of Kelaniya Dr. Neetha Subhashini was the Chief Guest & Director of Shilpa Kalashram Ms. Wasantha Padmini, was the Guest of Honour.
2. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neetha Subhashini and Mrs. Wasantha Padmini highlighted the importance of Hindi and shared their ideas to promote Hindi language. The event included cultural performances and exchange of ideas to promote Hindi language in Sri Lanka. More than 200 participants including Hindi professionals, enthusiasts, teachers, Media persons and students were present for the event. Students pursuing Hindi courses from Sri Dalada Maligawa, Mahatma Gandhi International Centre, Matale and Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Kandy also attended the function. Message of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi was screened and read out on the occasion.
3. Nayaka Theros of Sri Bharati Pirivena, Penideniya, Jhethawanarama Temple, Ingiriya, Giriulla Temple, Kurunegala, Rupa Aruna Pirivena, Pelmadulla, Somananda Pirivena, Kegalle and Kurukude Temple, Iriyagama graced the occasion.
4. During the week prior to the event, Hindi competitions were organized for students, in which more than 500 Hindi lovers and enthusiasts from various pirivenas and schools took part. Competitions were also organized for officials of AHCI Kandy. Winners of various Hindi competitions were awarded Certificates of Appreciation as well as cash prizes. During the event, books of A level Hindi syllabus and other Hindi study materials were distributed to the 08 schools pursuing Hindi in Central Province.
